Well, I am back much sooner than expected. The wonderful thing about a) Living in a block of apartments and b) Wifi is that there is always a neighbour who doesn't know how to run a secure Wifi connection. Thus, this week I shall be stealing a little bit of bandwidth occasionally to blog and keep in touch with the WoW-verse... so who ever you are "neighbour" I thank you for never having learnt to set up a secure Wifi connection - this week, you are my saviour. However, I shan't be playing WoW, that is probably a little unfair.
The one thing I haven't learnt in moving house is that I am not a) As strong as a Tauren b) As flexible as a Nightelf c) Do not have magical powers which may or may not aide me in moving furniture and boxes and d) That I have a problem with inventory space, two hybrid classes living together means way to much gear and that both of us need to throw away some chest and leg pieces! Maybe Haris Pilton can provide us with a couple of those ["Gigantique" Bags] that would definitely help!
Needless to say, my back hurts, my legs ache and I really feel like I just went ten rounds with Kil'jaeden himself! So I'm off to have a shower and then brave the newest zone in my life, it's way above level cap and full of some really nasty NPCs and even some problematic environmental structures, it's obviously something to do with the Devs, clearly they haven't had much experience in MMORPGs and to cap it all I seem to have lost most of my abilities... so please wish me luck in Ikea! I may or may not survive it and need to rezz at the spirit guide!

a little interlude
Well, I am taking a little enforced break from blogging for the next week or so. The only disadvantage of moving tomorrow is that I won't have the interwebs for a week or so. No WoW, how ever will I survive?
So it's goodbye from me for a little bit.
May the GMs bless you with phat lewts and pots of gold.

a good day
Somewhat and totally, maybe, unrelated to WoW. Today has been a really good day. Finally have a moving date which means life gets to be "normal" again. W00t own PC ftw (can you tell I have been missing my PC at a level which is probably horribly, abnormal - but at my level of geekdom is considered perfectly normal- and possibly requires psychiatric evaluation?). So ya'll will be glad to know there will probably be only one more blog entry on me missing my PC and that will be a happy reunion post, sometime next week!
This means I can stop dying on stupid Murlocs in Dustwallow - yes I am still blaming my idiocy on my UI. Someone please point out to me why exactly I decided it was a good idea to level there when I find the mind to late thirties absolutely intolerable where-ever I level and, therefore, STV would have been a far better choice because at least it would have been quick? Feeling like a total nubfish I am! Dead five times in as many minutes after repeatedly getting gankified. I should be deeply embarrassed and guess what? I am!
On the upside I do have to mention how wonderful DoubleWide and Lightheaded are when you are levelling. DoubleWide extends the quest log so that the description sits next to the quest and means you don't need to scroll and Lightheaded links comments from Wowhead into your quest log so that you can easily see where you need to be and what you need to do. Link this in with TomTom (a nice co-ord/map mod) and you'll get a lovely little arrow pointing the direction you need to go and how long it will take to get there and well, quite simply... GENIUS!

a talented tankadin part 2
If you are just thinking about starting to raid Kara then you will probably think the Paladin Dungeon Set 3 (The Righteous Armour)is a good place to start. Here I disagree. It contains too much Intellect and Spell Damage for a Tankadin and not enough Stamina. It will probably serve you well if you really wish to just be a master of none and want to play at being a tank but it won't see you well in Karazhan or Heroics.
The primary stats for a Tankadin are:
Defense Rating
Stamina
Avoidance (Block, Dodge and Parry)
Spell Damage
Intellect
Mana per Five
They are listed in order of importance. Everything to do with Mana comes at the bottom, yes you need some but Spiritual Attunement turns your Mana bar into a backwards Mana bar. The more you get hit, the more you are healed, the more you have mana to keep aggro. To get through the doors of Kara you need no more than 4500 mana unbuffed.
You need 490 Defense just as a Warrior and Druid tank does. It's not negotiable, less than 490 is too little.
Stamina is important, to begin with the gear will not allow you more than around 12k hit points buffed as you hit the door of Karazhan. That is fine, but you need to manage your stats to get you to that point. Augments like gems, leather patches, inscriptions can help you get there.
You might not find too much of it to begin with you any gear with Block, Dodge or Parry is good, some Agility is not bad either. Paladins need to make sure they Block a lot to keep aggro, it should be a priority to take Block but at the same time hard hitting bosses need more mitigation so don't skip on your Parry and Dodge. You probably won't manage 102.6% Avoidance without skimping on other stats. Just try to get there as fast as you can.
Spell Damage is the bread and butter of how Paladins tank. To enter Kara you are going to need as close as you can get to 250 spell damage.
As you come through the doors of Kara you should preferably be geared with the following. Though there is always room for adjustments:
[Felsteel Gloves] Socketed with 2 [Solid Star of Elune] and Gloves Major Spell-Power Enchant
[Felsteel Helm] Socketed with 3 [Solid Star of Elune]
[Shoulderguards of the Bold] from Shadow Labs with 2 [Solid Star of Elune]
[Felsteel Leggings] Socketed with 3 [Solid Star of Elune] with [Clefthoof Leg Armor] or [Nethercleft Leg Armor]
[Jade-Skull Breastplate] From Botanica with Chest Major Health Enchant
[Devilshark Cape] From Steamvaults with Cloak Major Agility
[Flesh Beast's Metal Greaves] From the Quest Someone Else's Hard Work Pays Off with Boots Fortitude Enchant
[Sha'tari Vindicator's Waistguard] From the Quest How to Break into the Arcatraz
[Sha'tari Wrought Armguards] From the Quest The Soul Devices Socketed with [Solid Star of Elune] with Bracer Major Intellect
[Ring of The Silverhand] Two of these since they are not Unique items. From Steamvaults.
[Dabiri's Enigma] From the Quest Dimensious The All-Devouring
[Regal Protectorate] From the Quests Cruel's Intentions (Horde) Overlord (Alliance)
[Crystalforged Sword] World Drop, often available on the Auction House with Major Spell Power Enchant
[Platinum Shield of the Valorous] Shadow Labs with Shield Major Stamina Enchant
All this gear is easy to get your hands on. There are other options, and sometimes better options, from Reputation Rewards. However getting Reputation can be long and arduous. I have only listed the gear that is available to those who can't do heroics and haven't yet ground a lot of rep. If you don't have reasonable Reputation then your Shoulder Slot should be patched with Heavy Knothide Armor Kit as should your Head Slot. However if you do have reasonable rep you should get Inscription of Warding (Aldor) or Greater Inscription of Warding (Aldor) or Inscription of Knight (Scryer) or Greater Inscription of Knight (Scryer) for your shoulder slot and Glyph of the Defender (Keeper's of Time) for your head slot.

a talented tankadin
I thought I'd repost this from my previous blog, yes lazy day! Too busy getting my butt whipped by some rather pesky murlocs!
So...
What do you need to be a decent Tankadin? The key is talents and correct gearing, without these you really are useless as a Tank. No Holy or Retribution spec Paladin will ever make an even half-way reasonable Tank, no matter what they tell you.
My build comprises mostly of talents from, unsurprisingly, the Protection Tree. I am heavy in this tree having spent fifty-one points here, the remaining points going into the Retribution Tree.
Redoubt
You need five points in this there is no avoiding it. As much as it might seem tempting to improve Devotion Aura, you just don't need it. The likelihood is that there will be a Holy Paladin in the Raid that will have Improved Devotion Aura and even if there isn't it's not important enough for you to take it over Redoubt.
Without five of five points in Redoubt you will never achieve the required percentage to be Crushing Immune - or more correctly almost to the point of infinitesimally small odds be Crushing Immune- which is currently believed to be 102.6% Avoidance. A Paladin cannot reach that without Redoubt procced, at early Kara gear stage, so you need it, end of story.
Toughness
This is where you make up for not having Improved Devotion Aura. With this talent and your standard Devotion Aura you will have 18% extra Armour than comes from the actual gear. It's a nice talent and the points aren't better spent elsewhere.
Blessing of Kings
Who doesn't want to add an extra 10% to their stats? Really does it need any more explaining than that?
Improved Righteous Fury
This reduces the amount of damage from all sources and gives you more threat. You need it, you can't tank without keeping aggro on the mobs. Without this talent every single DPS and Healer will be pulling aggro left right and centre. It's a must to have all three points in this.
Shield Specialization
Take less damage when you block? Yes please. A proportion of a Paladin Tank's threat comes from the spell damage done to a target when you block with either,or both, Holy Shield and Blessing of Sanctuary up. Paladins block a lot, they need to so they can hold aggro. So taking less damage in those blocks is a very sensible idea. It's not a vital must, like some other talents, but it comes heavily recommended.
Anticipation
Tanks need Defense Rating, there is not getting around that. It increases your avoidance but most importantly it reduces the risk of a crit landing. At 490 Defense you are considered to be Crit Immune, however bosses have a higher chance to crit and so you will be the victim of the odd critical strike. 490 Defense is required for all tanks and this talent gets you to the magic number more quickly. Don't skip it just to take Defense on gear, that is intentionally gimping your ability to take other important stats on gear.
Spell Warding
Reducing the amount of spell damage you take from a mob is nice but it isn't critical. I had two points left over and I spent them here. They don't have to be.
Blessing of Sanctuary
It's not important to take this talent because of the Blessing itself but because it leads to Holy Shield which is a must have talent. However when you can get Blessing of Kings from another Paladin it is a nice buff to your threat and mitigation. You can't avoid this talent if you want to be a Tankadin.
Reckoning
If you are an Alliance Paladin you don't have to take this talent. Seal of Vengeance replaces it comfortably but for a Blood Elf it really is recommended even though Paladins don't tank with white hit damage, but with Seal of Righteousness and Reckoning up you get a nice boost to your threat.
Sacred Duty
The reduction in Divine Shield is useless but the extra 6% this talent also gives, which stacks with Combat Expertise, allows you to get comparable stamina to a Protection Warrior. You don't have to take it but it's free hit points and I like free things!
One Handed Weapon Specialization
As I mentioned before Tankadins don't tank with white hit damage. Our threat is generated with passive spell damage from our shield block and also from consecration. This talent increases spell damage and allows you to take other stats on gear. Another one you don't have to have but more free stats so why not.
Holy Shield
You can't avoid this talent. As a Tankadin you will spam this until your fingers bleed. It is the mainstay of your ability to Tank anything more than a Critter. It generated aggro and increases your avoidance. You must take it.
Improved Holy Shield
Amother must for all the same reasons as Holy Shield. You can't miss this one out.
Ardent Defender
This is a nifty talent in hard bosses, big trash pulls and simply when the going gets tough. It isn't a must but it is a fantastic talent and it would be a shame to miss it.
Combat Expertise
Reducing your target's ability to dodge you is not vital or even really that needed but each hit that lands is a little more aggro on the mob. The reason you take this talent is for the extra 10% stamina. Again not a must but more free hit points that Paladins really can't afford to do without.
Avenger's Shield
This is a Tankadin's only real way to pull. You can get others to pull for you and in some situations that is best but Avenger's Shield is a great way of getting a lot of instant threat on a mob. Some Tanks skip it, especially Engineers, but for the amount of threat it can give you at the start of a fight, and sometimes midway through, in my opinion it is foolish to skip it.
Benediction
Tankadins have very little mana. Any reduction in the cost of spells is worth having. The alternative is Improved Blessing of Might which you will have no use for. Benediction is the only real choice.
Deflection
The final absolute. Increased Parry means increased Avoidance mean taking less damage. Simple really.
So that is my talent build and the build I would recommend to any Paladin serious about Tanking. There are variants on the build that do still work well but this is the standard for a Raiding Tankadin

why levelling is like epilation... rly
As if three level seventies was not enough I'd like to get at least two more to seventy before Wrath comes out. Maybe more. I have my little Rogue and Warlock languishing at thirty, my Druid at twenty-three and Foxevil, my main alt project, is moving swiftly towards forty - I just haven't had a much time to play as I would like what with moving and everything that is going on real life.
Anyway, yesterday morning I was doing "girlie stuff". Yep, I do that, being a girl, and whilst going through the weekly pain of epliation (boys, this is where said, slightly batty woman applies said instrument of torture, which has a rotating head with tweezers on it, to hairy places so that it can rip all the hairs out - and yes we only do it because otherwise you complain about hairy legs, left to our own devices we probably wouldn't bother.) and I got to thinking how epiliation is very much like levelling an alt in WoW. Possibly an odd thought I will admit, but let's go there anyway:
It's painful, damn painful; it seems to take up inordinately more time than you were expecting; you always seem to miss a bit and have to go back again; you can end up bleeding all day long and still not have finished; you often wonder if the pain is worth it; you have to stop repeatedly because you just can't take anymore; even when you're finshed you're still sore from it and finally, the quest rewards just aren't as good as you remembered - in the case of epilation you go through all the pain and your boyfriend either doesn't notice or tells you that you missed a bit!
You'd think from all that I wasn't enjoying levelling alts. You'd be wrong, while it can be a bit arduous and boring at times it is still exciting to get aquainted with a new character, and in the case of Foxevil for me a new class too! I do wish there was more new Azerothian content, Dustwallow was a nice step in the right direction for Blizz but I still wish that they had added even more content, afterall WoW is a progressive game and there are always new people levelling or oldies going back for another go! I still wonder if I am a masochist, should I not be happy with having three seventies already? I guess I am an altaholic!

the rules of being human
Not a WoW post but something I read, I liked and I wanted to share.
The Rules of Being Human
- You will receive a body. You may like or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.
- You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full time informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.
- There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately "works."
- A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
- Learning lessons does not end. There is not part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.
- "There" is no better than "here". When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will, again, look better than "here".
- Others are merely mirrors for you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.
- What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need, what you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
- Your answers lie inside you. The answers to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
- You will forget all this!
By Cherie Carter-Scott, Ph.D. A handout she created 25 years ago that circulated widely and anonymously until recently when she published If Life is a Game These are the Rules

xx vs xy
I have often been asked why I chose to play a male character in WoW when I am female. It's an interesting point. Many of the female gamers I know have rolled male models at some point. It's certainly not for the same reason that many male gamers roll a female avatar. From various conversations I've had that is more to do with running around the WoW-verse staring at a cute, pert little butt than anything else. For female gamers there is often a more insidious reason for choosing to roll a male avatar. It's simple, we don't want you "boys" to know we are women!
When I first started playing WoW I rolled my very first little character an Orc Hunter, called Moggoth. I rolled the female model and I liked the look, but what I didn't appreciate was the reaction I got when trying to join a group, it wasn't unusual to be kicked from a group just because I admitted there really was a woman behind the keys. I was surprised at the level of mysogyny, that female gamers were considered to be "inferior" and "emo", that simply we were too easily offended and couldn't handle the stresses of the game. I was left sitting in my chair wondering whether a male gamer being able to handle the stress of using a mouse better than a woman was down to too much testosterone and "one-handed play" - obviously this would, infact, give you a much strong wrist and therefore allow many more hours of play before RSI set in - because they were never going to find a girlfriend with that attitude!
So all this gave rise to the fact that I started rolling a male characters. The most notable of which has been a Blood Elf Tankadin called Braegor, who has been my Main for a very long time now. My experience of playing a male tank has been that I bypassed all the abuse that came with either being or being perceived to be a woman and could just get on with what I love to do without having to defend my position all the time. It was a relief to finally be able to play in peace, get a group whenever I wanted and not have some snotty fourteen year old tell me I couldn't play just because I didn't have extraneous accoutrements between my legs!
When I "come-out" as being a female people are genuinely surprised, generally not angry but quite shocked all the same. I wouldn't say I get extra kudos for being a female who plays a tank but certainly it's just not something that people are expecting. Only once did I get told to go and roll a female "fluffy class" like a priest, funny how people perceive that healers should be played by women, there must be a maternal psychology going on there somewhere.
As for females not being able to "handle" the stress of the game, my experience has been that it is just not true, the females I play with generally tend to be more philosophical when it comes to wiping and other disasters, they also tend to be more interested in furthering the progress of the group at their own expense and less obsessed with gaining every "phat epic" that comes along. Female epeen does exist, and yes I have met female players who have had there head so far up their vagina I am surprised they even managed to target a mob but they are, thank Thrall, a minority! Personally, I don't mind swearing or stressful situations but I just don't like abuse for the sake of abuse (and why should any player, female or not, put up with that anyway?).
The fact is, though, that having women in WoW does change the game, especially when you get to end-game but it's nothing to do with the female play-style or their ability to play. It's all about human interaction. I'd like to say I'd never been hit on in WoW and until I entered end-game raiding it just didn't happen, but as soon as you start interacting with your fellow guilides in a more "intimate" way and using VoIP things change. As I got to know people better I got hit on more often, mostly it wasn't intrusive or enough to feel like I was being pestered, but I was aware of it. I suppose in some ways I invited it because the more I got to know these people, who I now considered my friends, the more I relaxed and was more "myself" and I am quite a flirty person. It happened with other female guildies too, they found themselves in a position where they got into "flirtations" and it does change the nature of the relationships in the guild, there is no avoiding it. That is just what happens when men and women get together, it's all just biology! Is it bad for a guild? Yes and no. It's not while there is no seriousness and it's all just still good fun, and when parties aren't falling out... but when it gets messy it can and often is a guild-breaker.
I'm not advocating that women shouldn't play WoW or that we should have "female-only guilds" - though I am aware that there are some of those floating around the WoW-verse - just that as much as WoW is game it is also a microcosm of the real world and that there is no stopping the natural interactions between men and women. I could never be someone that criticizes it either, I would have never met my lovely Druid if it wasn't for WoW, but at the same time I do recognise how destructive these interactions are to game progression.
Interestingly, though, now I am "loud and proud" to be a female gamer, I actually would prefer to play my characters in the female model. Braegor has really fallen by the wayside because I no longer feel such a personal attachment to him. I am much happier playing my Shadowpriest, Nakia - a female troll. I feel much more comfortable not hiding away behind a male avatar. I think a lot of that comes from the fact that I am confident in my ability as a player and that I am happy to tell any misogynists to go boil their heads in a vat of bat guano!

a night in with teh wows
So it's Friday night and any self-respecting girly would be out for a night on the town, drinking until they threw up the contents of a very short skirt and probably the skimpy top too! Not me, I am having a night in with teh WoWs. The first in a very long time, it must be three or four months since I sat down to play WoW without any risk of being interrupted by arguments, dramas and other general real life disasters. It's good to be able to enjoy WoW again, it all seemed to get caught up in the whole "relationship" debarcle for a while, there are some areas of the WoW universe that make me shudder and twitch when I think about the insanity that was going on behind the scenes in VoIP and /w, but things are finally settling down. I should even have my PC in a couple of weeks on a shiny, new desk, in a very nice apartment and, best of all, next to my favourite Druid in the multi-verse, w00t! However, I really am missing my UI at the moment, I just haven't managed to rebuild it in quite the same way on my better-half's PC. Gief own PC now plx, kk thx bai!
It finally feels like life is getting back to some semblance of normality. I've really missed WoW. I don't need it like I used to, though. I don't rely on it as the thing that makes me want to get out of bed, instead I can enjoy it for what it is: one of my hobbies. This is a good thing. I'm slowly undoing all the damage I did to myself playing WoW sixteen hours a day for eighteen months, I'm starting to feel healthier, happier and more balanced. Heaven forbid I am even starting to get a tan and the better half no longer feels like his is "rolling undead" - which has been a long-standing joke since when we first met I was paler than Sylvanas, hadn't eaten properly in months and hardly slept (not all strictly issues that arose from WoW but it didn't help). I guess all we need to do is cure my lust for human flesh and my habit of trying to rip out the juglars of unsuspecting victims and I'll be well on my way to being human again... It's good to be able to say WoW is a hobby and not a way of life. I was never addicted to WoW, not even sure I believe you can be, but I did let it take over my life, mainly because I didn't have much of a life to start with.
So tonight I have a few beers, may well be a real junkie gamer and get a pizza, and I'm going to try and hit level forty! It's good to be back, finally.

the ten commandments of battlegrounds
- Thou shalt not leave your very kind and self-sacrificing PVP healer to get ganked by that rogue. Those heals you are getting did not magically appear from no-where. You do not have a guardian angel who follows you around and stops you dying, that bubble was not a direct gift from a divine being - well I am really quite divine but that isn't the point. Look after me and I will heal you, if you do not then I will bubble and let you die.

- Thou shalt not call me a n00b because I didn't help you with a pointless objective - usually that would lead to us losing, I like winning too much. If you want to do something pointless I can suggest a Rubix cube as a very good alternative to PVP?!
- Thou shalt not hide up a slope or behind a tree and go make coffee, unless of course you make me one at the same time. I am not wandering away from my screen to get nuked by a Gnome Warlock with pink hair, not even for a caffiene buff and since I didn't neither should you.
- Thou shalt not ask me to rebuff when I am getting my ass torn to shreds by a Fury Warrior. I mean really? You think it might be an idea to help me?
- Thou shalt read battleground changes in the patch notes, not wander blindly into a battleground and expect someone else to explain it. Unfortunately it is not a requirement of WoW to be literate, it amazes me how many people have managed to level to seventy without any knowledge of the English language.

- Thou shalt give me buffs, and Mage, you know that table thing? Make one, you are still a vending machine. I do not expect to have to jimmy you like a coke machine! I am sure you don't want me to stick my large pointy stick in your coin slot, so make me a table, dammit!
- Thou shalt not assume because you have Season Two Shoulders that you are a tactical and strategic genuis. They are a bunch of pixels, they did not increase your intelligence, oh how I wish they had but they clearly didn't. Please Blizz, can there be an IQ requirement for Season Four Shoulders?
- Thou shalt not drag a battleground on longer than it needs. Y'know, I drink a lot of coffee, I'm a girl... I need to pee! I also have a short attention span, stalemate just makes me think about soft-furnishings, make-up and whether I should really buy that sexy underwear. If it get's really bad I start considering what to make for dinner or thinking that the pile of ironing is starting to look like a better prospect. Please do not make me iron as a viable alternative to battlegrounding!
- Thou shalt learn that I don't want to hear you QQ because you got ganked, your guildmates ate your socks or any other such purile rubbish. If you don't have something prudent to say in /bg, simple, don't say it. If you have time to type that much inane garbage then you need to get out of the battleground, take your twaddle to /2 where inevitably you will fit in just great!
- Finally and most importantly, Thou shalt not leech honour. I have many, many words for those of you that leech, none of them, probably, repeatable on a blog. The whole point of WoW is to work for your gear, for your prestige. Leeching just makes you a pathetic munchkin who thinks shinies are more important than earning them. Take off your purple-tinted glasses and play the game.

/2
It never fails to amaze me the amount of rubbish that flows through "/2 trade:". I'd like to say that most of it is simply high spirits and exhuberance but unfortunately it isn't, most of it is just highly offensive gibberish. I makes me wonder what type of person needs to shout racist, sexist or just plain nasty comments in a public channel.
What's worse is it doesn't matter how many times you report them they never seem to get a ban, there are quite a few regular offenders on Moonglade. I mean is it really acceptable to make graphic references to rape, really is it? Maybe I am just over-sensitive but I don't want to log in and read that kind of thing. WoW is played by minors and I would love to recommend WoW to friends who have children but I just can't. It's a shame that the minority have to make "/2" a unpleasant channel to read. Sad that they need the powertrip, if I need a powertrip I'll go and PVP!
Occassionally, though, there is some really good RP in trade. I love to see people actually making an effort to bring RP into every aspect of the game. I'm not a big RP'er, my characters have little nuances but I've never written long back stories for them or been in a heavy RP guild. Still, there is nothing better than an impromtu conversation on the Zep or standing outside the bank.
So, can the "/2" trolls take note. If you have to be an offensive little oik, at least can you RP it. I know you have the intelligence and imagination of a small golden fish, usually kept in a bowl on a window cill, but please spare me your inane ramblings!

what button should i mash? (or why not playing for a while is a bad idea)
I'd like to level Foxevil, really I would but the problem with being away for so long is that I have simply forgotten how to play the poor cow! I can't remember what quests he's zone in which zones. I got to Desolace today only to find I'd done half the quests I intended to do. I looked at his talent spec and thought to myself, where exactly was I going with this? And for the life of me I have no recollection. Returning to an alt is hard work!
I am pretty sure I had intended to give him a hybrid elemental/enhancement build to see where I could go with that - since I never really intended to play him seriously. The major problem is I just keep dropping dead, not used to wearing leather after all that plate on Braegor. I just expect *not* to die and well then I do... it's most perturbing.
So answers on a postcard... how exactly do I remember how to play a Shaman? Level 36 seems a long way off.

real life?
I always seemed to have time for WoW before... So why do I now have about 10 minutes to log in check I didn't lose anything from my post box and then log out again? It just seems like days have got shorter, I used to have lots of spare minutes where I didn't do anything. So hey, who stole all my time and would they please give it back?!
I suspect it's called having a life outside WoW. The question is just how do you balance play-time and real life? It's a subject of much discussion at home at the moment, since my partner and I both play WoW and both our previous relationships really suffered because we played too much. Yes, we can play together but WoW-time is down-time and you don't always want to spend that with your nearest and dearest -sometimes you just need to be in your own little world. I don't think anyone realises how much "life" WoW takes not when you play hardcore or even casually hardcore.
I think there is a balance. I think you can be a gamer and have a successful relationship, despite horror stories like "World of Warcraft was the reason for my divorce" because in my experience if you were playing that much WoW when you had a significant other there was something seriously wrong in the relationship in the first place. That was certainly my experience. I played WoW as escapism because I wasn't happy and it was a very good excuse to put on the headphones, stare at the screen and let life pass me by. That's why WoW is addictive, if you aren't happy then why look for something better when you can just numb the futility of your life with a MMORPG?
So, I guess the number one way to balance WoW and life is to be happy in real life because if you aren't then WoW will just become anaethestic. I suppose the other big thing is just to be aware of what effect the game is having, once you stop doing anything together to sit down and play then things have gone wrong but it doesn't have to be that way. Problem is that it can easily get to that situation without you really noticing.
WoW doesn't have to be a life-breaker. It's like everything else, it's great in moderation. I, honestly, doubt I would have even started playing WoW if my life had been as idyllic as it is now, misery seems to be a great motivator to play MMOs, it's not the only reason but it's certainly a common one. Can I play WoW without misery in my life? I hope so, I just hope it won't cause me any in the future. L2balancewowandirl.

offensive and inappropriate, y'what blizz?
Reading Mike Schramm's post on WoW Insider "Blizzard: Sharing Wrath data is extremely offensive and inappropriate" made me wonder exactly what planet Blizzard are on. It's clearly not the same one as me where any little Wrath tipbits keep me slavering at the prospect of an expansion! Not all alpha changes will come to fruition but even so it keeps me happy reading possible new talents, musing over itemisation and generally drooling over any tiny piece of info that gets leaked. Yes, I am sad, yes I am pathetic but I am interested. I can't imagine why Blizzard are baulking at all this free publicity that has been handed to them on a plate. The prospect of Wrath is keeping a lot of fairly bored players in the game and if Blizzard haven't quite worked out that Wrath leaks are good for their business then they really need to fire their marketing team! We are all kids with attention deficient disorder, we have the attention span of a goldfish and this is keeping our little minds on WoW instead of considering that we might go and play Age of Conan or WAR...
Hello, Blizz, free publicity, QQ more! Srsly, I really did lol irl!

Amazingly, I do actually do have some other interests other than WoW... I know a scary concept really!
Recently I caught up with an old friend, from eons ago - yes, I am that old. Turns out his band played at Whitby Goth Weekend earlier in the year. I am really liking the music so I am feeling the need to share it around. Probably not everyone's cup of cha but it's had me hooked for just over a week, so it can't be that bad!
Please excuse me for giving them a bit of airtime on my blog, it's not WoW but it's still funky and it's always good to give unsigned bands some support, might mean we start to get "real" music again instead of manufactured "X-factor" shite!

guildless is the new black
I haven’t been playing much WoW of late. I’d like to say it was through choice and I had finally broken the back of my WoW habit, but I haven’t. Life has just been too busy and too chaotic to even sit down and play for more than an hour at a time. Consequently, I haven’t been raiding and my guild commitment went through the floor. I’m sure my guild understood that life was somewhat complex and I was just never at home in front of my PC but as a founding member and a class leader… Well, I just decided that enough was enough and left. So that’s it I’m a guildless wanderer of the world.
It’s actually pretty good being beholden to no-one. I haven’t farmed, I haven’t felt the need to do dailies to buy consumables and I am starting to enjoy playing WoW again. Actually looking towards Wrath when I might have more time to play again and thinking about what I want to play. For the majority of TBC I’ve played my Blood Elf Paladin, Braegor and my Shadow Priest, Nakia. Braegor’s nicely geared as both a Protadin and a Healadin but I’m bored of him and Nakia is fun but ultimately not really enough of a challenge. So, what’s next? I’m looking to level up my rather lovely Tauren Shaman, Foxevil and also levelling a Troll Mage, called Nerissi with my other half. It’s fun playing with your partner but, honestly, I still need my WoW “away” time.
The one thing that I can say about being guildless is that the stress levels associated with end-game suddenly disappear. It can be lonely to log in without all the greetings and random chat but I find I actually do much more, rather than standing in Shattrath shooting the shit with my guildies and waiting for the next raid. I don’t feel pressured to play, I don’t do things I don’t want to do - like heroic Mech for the Nth time just because it’s the daily! I am enjoying WoW again, reminding myself why I loved wandering the plains and mountains of Azeroth and just getting a bit of “me” time. Guildless is the new black…
