wow, WAR is fantastic

After a bit of soul-searching I decided it was time to think about playing MMOs again. The night's are drawing in, the pub is a long walk in the cold and well y'know how it is, in the end you just can't help yourself. With Wrath looming I did try to log back into WoW. My account hadn't yet lapsed and I thought "why not?" but then I logged in and remembered "that's why not". WoW just doesn't do it for me anymore, I don't love it anymore. I guess there was too much water under the bridge and anyway how exactly do you learn to play a game casually that had been your life for so long? You just can't.

I tried LOTR, it was absolutely snore worthy. It had none of the excitement of WoW and I thought "oh god I am doomed to play WoW forever" but then came WAR...

Admittedly I bought WAR yesterday, I've played it for a grand total of six hours, I am only level five but I LOVE this game. It's not glossy like WoW but who would expect that from a game that has been on the shelf for less than a month? It has a wonderfully intuitive interface, it flows, there are quests galore and whoever thought up the idea of public quests should have their hand shaken until it falls off. Its just beautifully designed. The Devs have really thought about the game mechanics - and in a lot of places how to solve the problems that WoW had. Essentially WoW was a Warhammer rip off in the first instance, well now the big boys are back and they have produced a game that not only equals WoW but surpasses it. It's such a refreshing change to play a game that I feel the Devs care about and isn't just about how many more millions of gamers can be sucked into spending the greater part of their life playing. WAR rights the wrongs that WoW brought, it is a casual game, I can pick it up and put it down but at the same time I still get all the candy I could ever want to eat. I always felt WoW wanted more from me than I was willing to give and wasn't exactly premium sweetie shop anyway!

I maybe preaching to the perverted but I am converted. I won't be buying Wrath, I won't be coming back to WoW but you can guarantee I will definitely be playing WAR, casually of course, for the forseeable future - or at least until I can feel my toes again, damn winter!
